Welcome to Greyhound Walks Forum

Greyhound Walks are a group of greyhound and lurcher owners and lovers who meet 3 times a month in various venues in and around Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire for an hours stroll, chatter and the sharing of doggy tales. All greyhounds and lurchers are welcome (no other breeds please). Greyhound Walks is a registered charity. Our registration number is 1127875

Our usual Braintree walk on the 2nd Sunday of the month falls on 13th December. 10am start, and time at the end for a chat.

I’ve had a few complaints this week regarding the advertising banner that appears at the top of our forum when the Ad-Free period runs out. So I thought I’d take this opportunity to explain why you’re currently seeing adverts, and what you can do to help out.

The popularity of the Greyhound Walks forum has increased at a phenomenal rate, and shows no sign of slowing down. This month we’re on target for over 70,000 page hits. You may also have noticed the hit counter at the bottom of the page, which shows we’re close to our 1 millionth hit since the forum was launched in December 2006

I think it’s important to make it clear that sadly we (Greyhound Walks) have no say on which adverts are shown – if we did, I’m sure they’d be all Greyhound related . We’re stuck with what we get from Google Adsense, who have to pay our forum Host (Proboards) to supply the advert banner.

We have a choice as to how we pay for our forum. We can either:
- Put up with the advertising banner.
- Pay a fee to remove the banner, by subscribing to “Ad-Free”

Ad-Free costs $7.00 USD for each block of 50,000 page hits in a calendar month. You can read more about Ad-Free by clicking: http://greyhoundwalks.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=aboutadfree

For reference, $7.00 USD is around £4.30 at todays exchange rate

so ... for us who are a bit challenged by posts of more than one paragraph and don't mention the X Factor, are you saying that Greyhound Walks has to pay $7 per month to remove advertising on the first 50000 page hits, then another $7 per month to remove them from the next 50000 page hits?

If I click and donate that goes into Greyhound Walks account to help towards the cost and isn't specific to me?

The credits need to be manually applied by an Administrator (or above) account.

The problem with the system is that it doesn't allow any unused page hits to be carried over to the next month. So if I apply credits now, we'll only use around 10,000 page hits before the end of the month, thus losing the other 40,000 (approx) hits.
I would suggest that we put up with the adverts for the remainder of this month, then starting November apply enough to cover the entire month.
