Hello, I have just joined this forum today and we would love to tag along to this walk. We have an 18 month old lurcher (Winston), hence the user name. He has been for walks with another dog but is still a very excitable juvenile and jumps up at people and other dogs, we still push him down and tell him not to but he is persistent. He can be vocal if another dog is to him first but has never been aggressive. I am hoping that by us coming along to these sorts of walks that it will socialise him with many different temperaments of dog and it will help him to calm down a little. Can you let me know if you think this is a reasonable idea and if we would be welcome? Thank you.

Hi I'm sure you'll be welcolme. I started taking my lurcher Jessie as she was agressive on the lead and I felt meeting other dogs would help. We're now a year on and lots of walks later and she is much better. All the dogs on the walk are very calm so it kind off gives off a calming feeling to new dogs. Its always great to see a new walker and everyone is very friendly. Come along!!!!

Yes, do go along as it's amazing how some of the dogs calm down when surrounded by other hounds.
We've just come back from Royston having been out with GH Rescue West of England kennel dogs and other folks and we're all used to different types of behaviour. It's a good place to pick up tips from others who have been through the same problems and many have a lot of experience.
Some of our other walks might be nearer you as we go to Wheathampstead, north of St Albans & Stanborough Lakes.

This walk has really helped my rescue Lurcher, Lily, as she was very nervous around dogs that she didn't know. The dogs all walk very well together and this creates a calming effect that has really helped her. She is also a lot more sociable, too. The walks have increased her confidence and also helped calm her nerves. I can't thank the organisers and other attendees enough for this. Looking forward to the 27th

In an IDEAL world, the snow should go from all the roads, but stay on the hills at Royston - 'cos it's picture postcard.
Will keep everyone updated with the weather this week!

Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome already. Snow and son's newspaper round permitting we will be there on Sunday. Looking forward to it but nervous in case Winston gets overload on excitement. Watch out for a lunatic on a lead.

Hope to be at the walk, but can't stay for the whole walk, sorry. We walked on the Heath today and the snow is going slowly!

27 Hounds pulled their owners around Royston Heath this morning! The wind was quite chilly though - but it was dry! ;D Lovely to meet the newbies as well - hope to see you again soon. Thanks for coming out to play - next Herts walk - Rickmansworth on February 17th.
