Hi All,
I know I'm a little out of the area but it would be great if there was a walk round my neck of the woods.
Essex is a bit far to go.

Have you heard about the GBGW where we'll help you set up your own walk for the day and they carry on if you wish.

Hi Janet,
Yes I am in Reading but I couldn't organise a tea party in a brewery. Would be nice to get a few folk together though.

Hi - I'm up for a walk in Reading if there were enough people - Palmer Park, may well be quite good although it gets loads of dog walkers over there, and loads of loose running dogs - which may cause a problem for Abby (she's a wuss if there are any dogs running loose.)

I'm in Berkshire too, but the Slough end, near south Buckinghamshire.
There are lots of good walks in this area: Windsor Great Park, Langley Park, Black Park and Burnham Beeches could all be explored.
The River Thames around Cookham, Marlow, Bourne End etc is also very beautiful. There are also areas of beauty around the Grand Union Canal.
Working full-time, I don't have a lot of time to organise unfortunately, but I'm happy to suss out a few places & do my bit if 'Greyhound Walks' has enough interested parties to make Berks part of its itinerary?

Hi Steve, it was great to see you and Booze (gotta love that name ;D) at Ricky, and thanks for the "bottle" which will go to "Skippy's Drink Game" at the Greyhound Walks show. As GW expands, it naturally gets more and more requests like this, which is very encouraging. As a registered charity, we are extremely careful to make sure we follow all the "rules" that apply to organised groups such as ours. This includes getting full approval and backing from the local council/park owners, risk assessments (for each and every single walk or event that we do - which is a requirement of our Public Liability Insurance), walk and event reports, training in both hound and human first aid for our walk leaders, and many other items of ridiculous red tape. So, as you can imagine, the setting up process is a rather huge task. What started as a few people getting together in and around Braintree in 2006 has grown at an incredible pace, and it has been a real challenge to keep up our standards. We only started formally in Herts and Norfolk less than a year ago, and to be quite honest, we need to give time for these counties to "bed-in" to the GW way, and for us to ensure that we have the right infrastructure in place and working properly. It's a bit of a steep learning curve! At the moment, we don't have any plans to expand our territory - we need a bit of time to breathe. ;D However, we do know that there are other walking groups about who follow the GW "model" and we would be extremely happy to provide details of "how we do it" to anyone that is interested. It's just that we don't really have the manpower (these things take up most of our spare time to organise) and infrastructure in place at the moment to take on any more counties directly under the Greyhound Walks banner. That doesn't mean it won't ever happen, but I have to be honest that it's not on the agenda at the moment. I hope that answers your points, and that you still love us!!!

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the message and of course I still love you!
I hadn't realised how much red tape there was to this sort of thing but this is Britain so I suppose I should have guessed!
I did look for greyhound walking groups in the Berkshire area; 'Greyhound Walks' is the closest I could find and, as the trip to Ricky is less than 30 minutes for me, it's no problem for me to get there. I'm also hoping to make Leavesden too.
I'm sure there are lots of greyhounds in Berkshire but for now, this owner's happy to do what he can in Herts and glad of the opportunity to do so thanks to all you good folks.
With regard to Great British Greyhound Walks, I aiming to make the Oxford one but will keep my eye on the site for updates.
Thanks again and best wishes
Steve
