We had a walk in South Weald last November but nothing since. It seemed well supported to me and was a lovely walk - does anyone know I more are planned (can't see any on the list).

I think it's coming up for the 2nd half of the year if my memory serves me right.

South Weald CP wanted £50 for an event licence for us to walk here later this year. That's not an amount we could justify paying for a normal walk. I've questioned the amount and am waiting a reply. I'll update when I know more.

I had no idea GW had to pay to enable these walks to take place? How can walking in a public space (even if there are quite a few of us) constitute an 'event'? Is it across the board or only on Local Authority owned land? I can understand having to gain permission, but to charge.

So - just getting this into my head here, land owned and paid for by the people who pay council/poll/rip off tax is now subjected to a 'use tax'.
Please vote for my 'sense of reality party' where I promise to cut cr@p and do-nothing jobs! Grrrrhhhh. How on earth did we arrive at this place?

Is it across the board or only on Local Authority owned land? I can understand having to gain permission, but to charge. Up until now we've only had to pay at two venues - Hylands Park, Chelmsford for the New Years Day walk, and Central Park, Chelmsford for the Essex GBGW walk. Neither Essex or Chelmsford Council own Hylands Park (or house), and act as managing agents. Therefore they have to cover their costs, and have little option but to charge us for the event. However, they do give us the event licence for Central Park (GBGW Essex) for free. With regards to Council owned parks: My understanding is that it's up to the Senior Ranger as to whether they make a charge for an organised event. And, if they really want to push the boat right out ... they can take a commission percentage of anything that's sold on their park. To redress the balance: Gt Notley Country Park have been very supportive of Greyhound Walks, and have been extremely generous to us with regards the Greyhound Walks Show.
