Thought I might just create a thread so that I can update you all with what's happening with the show planning, and how things are going

Well ,we've had our first show planning meeting, which went extremely well, so a big thank you to everyone who turned up. If you'd still like to help out just post your name to this thread, or contact Angela, or email [e-mail]

And now the roller-coaster of news:
The bad news is that Essex County Council are charging us for the use of the park. Not content with making good, easy money from the car park, they're charging us £250 event licence fee. Also, please note that the car park charge has gone up to £3.50 a day. I don't want to get bogged down with the rights and wrongs of the charges in this thread, but please - if you have views let us know either before or at the AGM, as Essex County Council are up for discussion.

Ok, and now the good news.
Some might know, or even remember, that Springlodge Vets have supported the Greyhound Walks Show from the beginning. The owner, has very kindly (and quickly) offered to pay the event licence fee. Springlodge will also be offering much support before and on the day. So I would personally like to welcome Springlodge as a Greyhound Walks Show prime sponsor. Click for Springlodge
I have a couple of meetings scheduled over the next few weeks with two other possible prime sponsors - and am fairly confident of securing one of them.


Invitations have gone out to the GW Show 2013 pitch-holders inviting them to take a pitch at this years show. So far, the response has been swift and very positive. We already have a very good take up from both rehoming organisations and traders.

You may have seen the advert on our Facebook feed advertising for photographers. Well, we're very close to agreeing terms with two photographers, but are still looking for a third. If you'd be interested in helping, please contact either Janet or Angela, or post a reply to this thread. You'll preferably need to be using a dSLR, or at a push a high end compact camera (no phone cameras!!) and agree to some very simple terms. In return, we'll make a donation to a charity of your choice.

Thanks Sam, I'll add your name to the pool. The plan is to get a team of keen volunteers together to cover as much as possible ... still in the planning stage atm but hope to get the details together after Sunday.

Unlikely as he lives quite a distance away but can always ask.

Sponsorship for the Greyhound & Lurcher classes will be posted later today

If anyone would like a bundle of flyers to spread the word please let me know and I'll get them to you.

Please share details of our show wherever possible, this is a special one and we want it to be a real humdinger of an event.

We have decided that the Greyhound and Lurcher Classes at this year's Greyhound Walks Show are going to be dedicated to the memory of Marion Hipkin.

Marion, alongside our current judge Darrin Barker, judged at our first 3 shows. A very accomplished and well respected Kennel Club breed judge she was thrilled to be asked to judge our little local greyhound shows.

The manner in which she undertook the judging, always conscious that she was looking at pet hounds, set the bench mark for how our classes would always be judged, and encouraged us to continue with the show now into its 7th year.

Marion was diagnosed with cancer in December and fought a stubborn and determined battle until she passed away peacefully on 24 May.

Her husband Charlie, also my brother, is very touched by the tribute and hopes to come along to the show.

In recognition of her fight we will have Macmillan collection pots at the show on 10th August.

So sorry to hear of your family loss Janet - but Marion will be fondly remembered by all who met her, especially at those early shows. Do I remember correctly, that Marion was very involved with Great Danes?

To dedicate the greyhound and lurcher classes to Marion, is a fitting tribute after all her support.
