The Great British Greyhound Walk 10am Sunday 20th June 2010 The Great British Greyhound Walk is the brainchild of Janet Peacock founder of Greyhound Walks in Essex. The first Greyhound Walk was in April 2006 when 5 greyhounds and their families got together after a letter was written to the Braintree Times seeing local owners fancied a get-together. Numbers steadily grew and in August 2006 there was an enormous boost after the plight of ex racing greyhounds was highlighted nationally. Since then once monthly walks have progressed to twice monthly walks and in 2008 we're doing 3 walks each month. The number of dogs at each walk averages 60 and our record attendance was on 1st January 2009 when 128 dogs went walking. Janet is being assisted in the organisation of the walk by Liz Cooper who has been involved in homing retired racing greyhounds for ten years and helps run the Harlow branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust. The Great British Greyhound Walk is being held in association with Greyhound Walks and the Retired Greyhound Trust. At 10am on Sunday 20th June 2010 organised Greyhound Walks will be held throughout the UK. We're hoping to link up with organisations, kennels and individuals across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to bring public awareness to Greyhounds as pets. It's planned that the scale of the project will attract public and media attention. The websites are currently going live, and can be found at: www.greatbritishgreyhoundwalk.org.ukThe websites and this forum will be updated as more organisations sign up, so check back regularly for the latest news. You'll also be able to check out locations of walks and organisations in your area.

What a great idea and very exciting. I've marked my calendar already, so we'll be there for the inaugural Great British Greyhound Walk ;D

Just wondering if there are gonna be any advertising type things for this? I saw a couple today who had a gorgeous (and very friendly) lurcher and was going to mention this to them but realised I had no information about it and I didn't want to sound daft ;D. If not, I could probably rustle up something myself .

At the moment we have a website which will be constantly updated as more and more interest is shown: www.greatbritishgreyhoundwalk.org.ukWe also have leaflets and posters that we take to shows. I think there's a meeting on Tuesday about putting together an information pack.

We're going to be holding three separate walks here in West Sussex. As soon as we get locations confirmed will let you know. It may only be two locations now as apparently the London to Brighton bike ride is usually held around this date which make roads in and out of Brighton a nightmare.
